A car crashed into the McAlister's Deli at Battlefield and Kansas Expressway in Springfield.
Witnesses tell KSPR News that the driver of the Hyundai sedan seemed to accelerate while pulling up to the restaurant; those witnesses heard the car's engine rev, just before it smacked into the front windows of the eatery at 11:31 a.m.
The manager of McAlister's called it "luck" that the car didn't hit the restaurant just a few minutes later. An employee even says one person had been seated in the area where the woman's car hit, but she was able to move out of harm's way.
Police say the driver of the car was 77 year old Velma Thomas. According to police, she says her accelerator got stuck. For now, it appears as if no charges will be filed.
