It's normal practice to rake the bunkers at Rivercut Golf Course, but often because of errant shots and not because of errant water.
"We're having to remove the silt, add some sand and rake it,” says Rivercut superintendent Ken Ault. “They took quite a beating.”
And, the record rainfall attacked much more than the bunkers.
"The greens at three, four, and six were totally underwater and five was partially underwater,” says Ault.
Golfers normally deal with sand traps and water hazards, but the water level rose so high that it carried a nearby farmers hay bales and dropped them on the course.
"The bridge on four is gone and about 60 feet for the bridge on 6 is missing,” says Ault.
"This is a priority,” says Director of Springfield-Green County Parks Jodie Adams. “This has gone to the front of the construction area of our park system."
A priority indeed, because with half the course closed this par 72 is playing at about a par 27.
"After you get past 10 and 11, the course is probably as playable as it normally is,” says Ault.
Today's wind and the fact that most of the water that covered Rivercut comes into play on the front nine could allow for the back nine opened by tomorrow.
But, because of the bridge damage on the front nine, it could be a month before those holes are playable.
