PETA Protests Dickerson Park Zoo with a Kangaroo

By KSPR News

A kangaroo was on the loose at the Dickerson Park Zoo, but this one was in protest.

Thursday, PETA or "People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals" stood outside of the property in hopes of gaining attention to get the zoo's accreditation taken away.

This comes after PETA claimed to have found documents, proving the zoo donated a kangaroo and other animals to a dealer notorious for selling animals to hunting ranches.

"Investigative reports that show Buddy Jordan sells these animals to exotic animal auctions, breeders, and dealers, hunting ranches, and unaccredited facilities," PETA Member Daniel Hauff said.

PETA says it can prove the zoo also sold giraffes and transferred kangaroos to another animal dealer.

Thursday night, the group is urging the Springfield-Greene County Park Board to implement a policy that prohibits the disposal of zoo animals to unaccredited facilities.
