"Ozark Jubilee" guitarist Herschel "Speedy" Haworth dies at 85

By KSPR NEWS

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Ozarks country music guitarist and singer Herschel "Speedy" Haworth Jr. is dead.

Haworth's family says he died Tuesday at age 85 at his home in Springfield. He had suffered from Parkinson's disease and a broken hip.

Funeral services will be Friday.

Haworth is remembered by many for playing lead guitar on the 1950s country music show "Ozark Jubilee," which was broadcast nationally from Springfield.

Haworth also was part of the original Porter Wagoner Trio, which had the top-10 hit "Company's Comin"' and the No. 1 hit "A Satisfied Mind."

In recent years he sang more gospel music and performed in smaller venues around the Ozarks.
