Woman Dies Aboard American Airlines Flight

By KSPR News

NEW YORK (AP) - American Airlines is disputing the account of a man whose cousin died aboard a flight from Haiti to New York.

The man says his cousin, who was having trouble breathing, was twice refused oxygen by a flight attendant. He also claims that medical devices, including two oxygen tanks, failed to work.

American Airlines confirms the death of the woman (Carine Desir), and says medical professionals tried to save her.

Airline spokesman Charley Wilson says there were 12 oxygen tanks on the plane and that the crew had checked them ahead of time to make sure they were working. He says at least two were used on the woman.

Wilson says he doesn't know whether a flight attendant initially refused to administer oxygen to her.

The woman was pronounced dead by a doctor on board the plane. A medical examiner says she died of natural causes.

I bet nearly everyone who flies has a kid-behind-kicking-the-seat horror story. In my case the mom beside him didn't have any excuse, just that they paid plenty for the tickets and he could do whatever he wanted. How about making car seat type restraints mandatory for kids, at least the problem kids and/or problem parents?

Spending the night at the airport is ALWAYS bad. Thanks for your input, Lara. Christine and I spent an overseas flight in front of a young girl (about 3) who kicked the back of our seat the ENTIRE flight. Her mother was busy with a very young child who was prone to loud crying outbursts, so she was overwhelmed. But she would not keep her kid from pushing our seat forward. Even when we pleaded with her and the flight attend. Lesson: never travel with 2 or more young kids as a single parent

I was fly from Charleston SC to San Quan PR. The airlines lost my luggage. But the worst part was I had my ships paychecks in my luggage. So everyone on the ship did not receive their pay checks. I spent the night at the air port wait for all arriving flights to check all the luggage. The pay was never found. We had to call the comptroller. He flew to San Quan with cash for everyone 3 days later.
