Rowan Ford Laid to Rest

By Natalie Swallow

It's been almost two weeks since Rowan Ford was taken from her home, brutalized and murdered. Wednesday, she was laid to rest.

Funeral services were held at Gospel Lighthouse Church in Neosho, and graveside services were in Rowan's hometown of Stella.

At 9 years, 6 months, and 29 days old, Rowan Ford was remembered by family and friends as a happy, helpful, and godly little girl.

"She was well loved by everyone and everyone is going to remember that week she was missing and always remember that laugh and smile she had," Rebecca Hance, who went to church with Rowan, said.

Hundreds filed into Gospel Lighthouse Church for a service filled with some of Rowan's favorite songs and bible verses and tears for the little girl.

More than a hundred also went graveside to pay their last respects to Rowan.

Rowan was a little girl who loved the color purple, swimming, and riding her bike all around and especially to church.

A little girl who always asked for "one more hug and one more kiss."

"My mom's a cook at Triway where she went, and they were little buddies, and she always went through the line and always gave people hugs, that's what I'll miss the most is her hugs,” Hance said.

The reverend from Stella Baptist where Rowan went to church said that in 68 years of funerals, one has never hurt so bad.

A feeling shared through the faces and tears of those who loved Rowan Ford in life and those who only knew her in death.

All funeral expenses were taken care of by Clark Funeral Homes.

A fund has been set up in Rowan's name if you want to make contributions.

Clark Funeral Homes also has the guestbook from Wednesday's funeral posted on its website.
