WEST PLAINS, Mo. -- West Plains School District Superintendent Fred Czerwonka is leaving at the end of the school year to become superintendent of the St. Joseph School District.  Czerwonka resigned at a special school board meeting on Wednesday night.

Czerwonka has been superintendent here for four years. Prior to that, he was assistant superintendent.

The West Plains School Board appointed assistant superintendent John Mulford as the new superintendent at the special meeting, beginning July 1.

“On behalf of the entire district, the board of education expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Czerwonka for his efforts while serving as superintendent of this great school district and accomplishments of the entire district team during Dr. Czerwonka’s tenure as superintendent,” said School Board president Jim Thompson, in a news release.  “The Board is grateful for the positive leadership he has provided this community.  His unwavering focus on what is best for our students has continued to support this high-performing school district. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors.”
