Student dies in dorm suite in Rolla

ROLLA, Mo. -- A Missouri University of Science and Technology student died in her dormitory suite on Friday night.  Rolla police say someone found the body of Kaitlyn Brown, 19, of Mission, Kan., about 2:34 a.m. Saturday.

Brown’s body was in a common area of the suite in Farrar Hall.  She was a sophomore studying business and information technology.

Rolla Police Chief Mark Kearse says there are some things that concern him about the death.  He said the cause of death is not determined.

Traditionally, St. Patrick's Day weekend in Rolla means a lot of parties in the campus area.  Kearse couldn’t say if Brown might have been at a party.

"On behalf of our entire university family, I extend my deepest sympathies to Kaitlyn's family, loved ones and friends," said Missouri S&T Chancellor Cheryl Schrader in a prepared statement. "Our hearts go out to all who knew and loved her."

Members of Missouri S&T's counseling staff offered counseling services for students in the dorm.
