NEVADA, Mo. -- A judge has sentenced a Vernon County man to 17 years in prison, after pleading guilty to beating his wife to death.
Mark Bishop claimed Mary Bishop tripped over the family dogs and fell off the back porch at their home near Moundsville last year. Prosecutors told the judge Friday witnesses were ready to testify Bishop beat her several times in the past.
As with every turn in this emotional case, the courthouse in Nevada was under heavy security.
