EUREKA SPRINGS, Ark. -- A Eureka Springs, Arkansas mother faces several charges, accused of threatening school leaders with a baseball bat and leading police on a high-speed chase.
The incident Thursday led to a lock-down at an elementary school. Police say Sara Charlotte Smith tried to force her way into the school, claiming she was a student's mother. The school told her no because of a protection order against her. That's when police say she got an aluminum bat and broke the glass on a door of the school. Detectives say she then tried to hit a custodian with her vehicle, who was trying to stop her outside.
A chase then ensued after officers spotted Smith's vehicle on Highway 62. Police say speeds topped 80-miles-per-hour. Officers say she stopped at a strip mall, attempting to get into another car. That is when she was arrested Smith.
Officers also seized a pint of whiskey from Smith's vehicle.
