SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - During a special lunchtime session on Monday, Springfield City Council members selected Mike Carroll to serve in the seat vacated by Thomas Bieker. Bieker resigned in early November after he moved outside the city.
City Council members initially picked from 15 applicants for the seat, narrowing the number of finalists to three.
Carroll has been a resident of Springfield for seven years and is the controller of Andy’s Frozen Custard. He received a juris doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia in May 2000 and is a former member of the Greene County Board of Equalization and Leadership Springfield.
The other two finalists are Dean Young and Tom Barr. All three finalists were asked a series of questions during the meeting.
Council members Doug Burlison, Jan Fisk, John Rush, Cindy Rushefsky and Jeff Seifried for Carroll; Mayor Bob Stephens and Councilman Jerry Compton votes for Young; and Councilman Scott Bailes voted for Barr.
Carroll will take his seat during the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Monday evening. His appointment is for the final two years of Bieker's term, ending in April 2015.
