SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A Greene County jury convicted a career criminal on Thursday of trying to rape his ex-girlfriend and trying to burn a truck belonging to his ex-girlfriend’s sister. Frankie Brown, 28, of Springfield faces at least a 10-year prison sentence and possibly much more.
The jury found Brown guilty of attempted forcible rape, felonious restraint, first-degree burglary, first-degree trespass, first-degree tampering, and attempted knowingly burning. It found him not guilty of attempted forcible sodomy, third-degree domestic assault, and first-degree attempted burglary.
The jury deliberated for approximately 11 hours before returning its verdict. The trial was before Circuit Judge Tom Mountjoy. The crimes occurred between June 26 and July 27, 2011.
The defendant is a prior and persistent felony offender. His previous convictions are for second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, possession of prohibited articles in a county jail, and two counts of second-degree domestic assault.
Because of Brown’s status as a prior and persistent felony offender, he could face multiple life prison sentences. Mountjoy scheduled a sentencing hearing for February 22, 2013.
