PLEASANT RIDGE, Mo. -- A fire in a rural home east of Monett killed a woman from Barry County on Saturday morning. The victim was Katherine Hogenmiller, 82.
The house was fully involved in flames by the time the first crews from Monett Rural Fire Department arrived about 6 a.m. The home is on Farm Road 1160, south of Highway Z.
Firefighters from Monett, Aurora Rural and Verona took tankers to the fire. Firefighters were on the scene for more than four hours. The home burned to the ground except for its brick exterior walls.
An investigator for the State Fire Marshal’s Office found no evidence of foul play or any suspicious circumstances. A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety says the cause of the fire is undetermined due to the extent of the damage.
Hogenmiller's daughter told firefighters that she took her mother home for the first time in several days on Friday. Hogenmiller's husband, Robert "Bob" Hogenmiller, 84, died on Feb. 15, and Katherine Hogenmiller had been staying with relatives.
