VERSAILLES, Mo. -- A malnourished calf died several days after being rescued from a farm in central Missouri where 15 head of cattle were found dead.
The Morgan County Sheriff's Department says in a news release on Wednesday that the calf was in poor health when it and 19 other surviving cattle were removed from the property last week. The removals happened after authorities served a search warrant to check on the health and safety of the animals.
The 15 dead animals were found in various stages of decomposition and were buried. The surviving cattle received veterinary care and were transferred to another cattle ranch in the area.
The sheriff's department sent information to the prosecuting attorney for possible charges against the man who leased the land to graze his cattle.
