Career criminal gets 65-year prison sentence for attacking ex-girlfriend in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- A judge gave a man from Springfield a 65-year prison sentence on Friday for trying to rape his ex-girlfriend and trying to burn a pickup belonging to that woman’s sister.  A Greene County jury convicted Frankie Brown, 28, last November.  The crimes were in Springfield last June 26 and 27.

Circuit Judge Tom Mountjoy sentenced Brown to life imprisonment (30 years) for attempted forcible rape, 20 years for first-degree burglary, 15 years for felonious restraint, 15 years for first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle, 1 year for attempted knowingly burning, and 15 days for first-degree trespass.  The life, 20-year and one 15-year sentences are to run consecutively.  All other counts are to run concurrently.

The defendant is a prior and persistent felony offender because he has felony convictions previously for second-degree assault, first-degree burglary, possession of prohibited articles in a county jail, second-degree domestic assault.
