KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- An attorney from Lee’s Summit was arrested on Friday for the murder of her father at a home near Sunrise Beach in 2010. Law enforcement officers say Susan “Liz” Van Note, 44, is indicted for first-degree murder and forgery for the death of William Van Note, 67, on his home next to Lake of the Ozarks.
Someone shot William Van Note and his longtime companion, Sharon Dickson, 59, at their home on Sunrise Acres Point on Oct. 2, 2010. Dickson died in the home. Van Note died four days later at a hospital in Columbia.
A grand jury in Boone County, where Van Note died, handed up indictments against Susan Van Note, Desre Dory, and Stacey Dory on Friday. The Dorys are charged with second-degree murder and forgery.
Camden County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Keedy told the Kansas City Star that the murder charges are only for Van Note’s death, not the death of Dickson. The indictments are sealed until the three suspects appear in court next week in Columbia.

Throughout this week sheriff's deputies have been working with the Camden County Sheriff’s Department regarding a 2010 homicide investigation in their county. In a joint effort, members of the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Response Team (SORT) spent many hours watching the movement of a female suspected of the homicide.
Today we received information that an indictment for first-degree murder and forgery was issued for Susan E. Van Note, 44, of Lee’s Summit, an attorney at Van Note Law Offices.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., Jackson County sheriff's deputies took Van Note into custody without incident. She was taken to Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Headquarters in Lee’s Summit for questioning. Upon completion, she will be released into the custody of Camden County Detectives for extradition.
On the Kansas side, Camden County investigators worked with the Johnson County, Kan., Sheriff’s Office and Shawnee Police Department. After the indictment, they took two other suspects into custody on second-degree murder and forgery charges relating to the same case.
