Victim identified in deadly Springfield shooting Friday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Springfield Police investigators have identified the man shot to death Friday.

Officers found 34-year-old James D. Davis dead in a home on Brower Street near Rogers Avenue shortly after 3:00 p.m.  Davis had moved to Springfield from St. Louis.  A woman inside the home was stabbed in the assault.  Police say her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Police believe Davis and the woman did not live at the home.  Investigators say the shooter fled on foot.  Cpl. Matt Brown, a spokesman for the police department, said officers have a good idea of a person for whom they are looking.  They do no think this is a random crime.
