REPUBLIC, Mo. -- One teenager died and another is seriously injured after a car wreck near the intersection of Miller Road at Lynn Avenue on Monday night.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Garrett Blotter, 16, died at the scene.  Desmond Roy, 16, was riding in the car.  He was airlifted to a hospital in Springfield with serious injuries.

The wreck happened after 7 p.m. Monday. Police say it appeared the car in which they were riding crested a hill, skidded off the road and hit a tree.

The Highway Patrol crash report says the car ran off the roadway and hit a tree at about 7:30 Monday night.

Both Blotter and Roy were wearing seatbelts.

A memorial fund has been created for Garret Blotter.  Also, a benefit account has been set up for Desmond Roy to assist with medical costs. Donations can be made by stopping by the Republic branch of Mid-Missouri Bank (806 East Hines). Questions can be directed to the bank by calling (417) 732-4800.

A prayer vigil hosted by Garrett Blotter's family along with several local churches will be held Tuesday evening at JR Martin Park at 8.
