MONETT, Mo -- Talk about the worst way to get caught cutting class...

How about going door to door posing as members of student group asking for money, and visiting the home of a teacher?

That's what happened this week in Monett.

They posed as Junior ROTC cadets from Monett's Scott Regional Technical Center.

Police say they have been going to door to door for the past couple months collecting money.

They would've continued their scam, but the students visited the home of a substitute teacher. She called the school and tipped them off.

"Our kids earn everything they get, from ribbons to money," said Lt. Col. Maella Blalock, the JROTC director. "They would not just go out and say 'Give me money.'"

Police spoke with the students and found out they also asked for money for breast cancer awareness.

Police will refer the four students to juvenile court, but they have to wait for victims to step forward and call police.
