KSPR first featured Roosevelt Simpson, III in July for a weekly series featuring fugitives from justice, sought by the U.S. Marshals Service. Marshals say they hope a second time around will garner tips to lead them to Simpson's whereabouts.
Marshals say Simpson has an extensive criminal background which includes tampering with motor vehicles, felony stealing, armed robberies, possession controlled substances, and several burglaries, all dating back to 2002.
One of the first times Simpson crossed paths with the justice system was a conviction for robbing the "Smoking Cheap" store which used to be at the corner of Missouri Avenue and Commercial Street in Springfield. He later violated his probation and skipped out on several court dates. The judge in the case issued a warrant for Simpson's arrest.
Just last year, Simpson caught the attention of federal law enforcement officers. He was listed as a defendant in a 70-count indictment in the Western District of Missouri U.S. Court, along with 17 others. Simpson is the only person indicted in the case who has not been convicted and sentenced to federal prison.
Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Kelly Palmer said, "We believe he's a danger to the community due to his lengthy criminal history and his violent background."
Jerry Craig with the Drug Enforcement Administration agreed, "Again, drug distribution, robbery, violent crimes that he's associate with, those all put the community in danger."
Craig says Simpson has ties to Saint Louis, and the group he was associated with has significant ties to Chicago, but says he believes someone in the Springfield area knows where he is. Both the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Marshals hope someone will be brave enough to call the Marshals and let them know where he is.
