In this week’s Leigh’s Lost and Found report, we’re taking a look back at the amazing success of the Lost and Found effort since KSPR and Springfield/Greene County Animal Control launched it last March. Thanks to the almost 1,400 fans on the Lost and Found Facebook page and local rescues and shelters, more than 100 animals have been reunited with their owners or have found a new, forever home.
Leah Peryer of Sparta and her friend Kimbra Kearns are responsible for the latest reunion, after Leah found a small dog in her neighborhood.
“She was just on the side of the road off the in ditch and when I drove by she ran out in the road."
Leah posted a ‘found dog’ poster all over town and Kimbra posted the pup on the Lost and Found face book page. Their efforts paid off when the dog’s owner came forward.
"He had tears in his eyes and he called her name and she ran and jumped, literally jumped up right here."
Happy reunions like that one and many others were made possible by the efforts of our fans on the Lost and Found face book page. By sharing posts about missing and found animals, the network has grown substantially, leading to more and more success stories. Stories like Debbie Collins who was reunited with her 10 year old Dachshund Abby who was gone for a week, and the reunion of a kitty named ‘Roo’ with her owner, after two months!
With your help, there have been more than 100 happy endings like those, either reuniting lost pets with their owners or finding them new, forever homes. That includes Leigh's newest family member, Elvis, a German Shepherd that spent the past year on the street. He is now getting better and stronger every day and has a loving family to start off his new year!
