EUREKA SPRINGS, AR -- A Christian radio network is asking for donations to help save and keep open the Great Passion Play in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. The money is needed to pay the interest on the play's mortgage and past due property taxes. Cornerstone Bank began foreclosure on the property last month. The Great Passion Play brought in thousands of people and millions of dollars to the city when it first opened in 1968. But the production experienced a large drop in attendance during the past several years. The Gospel Station Network is based in Ada, Oklahoma. Is has affiliate stations in five states, but none in Missouri or Arkansas. The network says it needs to raise at least $75,000 by December 31 to stop the foreclosure. It says all donations will be returned if that amount is not raised. The Gospel Station Network and Great Passion Play officials will hold a public meeting Thursday, December 27, to discuss plans to keep the production open. That meeting gets underway at 7 p.m. in Smith Chapel on the passion play grounds in Eureka Springs.
