BRANSON, Mo -- This is a case that started several months ago in New Mexico and continues here now in the Ozarks.
Police say a man named Bobby Willis ran away from several business commitments and stole millions from investors.
Authorities from several state and federal agencies are on the hunt for Willis, whom they say embezzled more than $13 million.
An arrest warrant explains how Willis collected cash, gold, silver and several gem stones from investors. he told them he'd use the money to build a hospital in New Mexico.
Instead, investigators say he ran away with his family to Branson and stored the treasures in several properties he bought there.
Documents also say willis kept safes filled with guns and ammo in some of those homes.
We caught up with the lead detective John Bradford with the Farmington (NM) Police Department.
This was Bradford's second trip to the Ozarks this year. So far he's recovered more than $10 million in assets.
He says he's still searching for $1.5 million in gold - and Willis himself, who remains at large.
Teams of more than 25 officers conducted this week's raids on Willis' properties.
Those teams included personnel from the FBI, IRS, Missouri Highway Patrol and Branson PD.
Willis faces charges of racketeering, fraud, embezzlement and securities fraud.
