SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- An employee who was working around scrap metal was run over by a piece of heavy equipment at a recycling business on Monday afternoon.  Police said Tuesday morning that he was Jason Taylor, 35.   He was not the operator of the equipment.

The accident was at All Metal Recycling, 3340 W. Division St. near West Bypass about 3:35 p.m.  Springfield Police Lt. Robert Pitts says nothing at the scene suggests anything but an accident.  He said police would continue investigate and would also notify the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration area office in Kansas City.  OSHA investigates workplace accidents to see if the business violated federal safety rules.

The business was closed and potential customers were turned away after the accident.  The business buys scrap metal and sorts and crushes it so it can be shipped away and recycled into new metal products.
