Attorney: My Client Is 'Not A Monster'

By KSPR News

A former Greenfield teacher accused of having sex with one of her students was freed on bond Tuesday, one day after being charged in Lawrence County with having sex with a 16-year-old student.

Alison Peck, 23, was released from the jail in Mount Vernon. She's charged in Lawrence and Dade counties with statutory rape and sodomy -- charges stemming from her alleged affair with a student.

"She's going to cooperate," her attorney, Bob Torp, said Tuesday. "We're going to get to the bottom of this, investigate it.

"I want people to understand that she's a person. She's not a monster. She's innocent until proven guilty."

Torp said his client is "doing as well as can be expected. I think that, you know, there's a certain amount of shock that comes with something like this. It's just starting to sink in."

If convicted of the charges against her, Peck faces up to seven years in prison. She's due back in court in mid-June in Dade County.
