At the beginning
Mark Zuckerberg, right, and friends work on Thefacebook.com, an early version of Facebook, in a rented home in Los Altos, Calif., in January 2005. Zuckerberg launched the social network in his Harvard dorm room in the previous year. It soon spread to more than 300 colleges and universities and grew to more than a million members.
