Study Shows 1 in 4 Teen Girls has an STD

By KSPR News

A new study shows a high number of teens have a sexually transmitted disease.

The Center for Disease Control announced on average one in four American teenage girls has an STD.

Doctors say a combination of abstinence-only sex education and teens feeling they're immune may be to blame.

A simple conversation can make all the difference.

“I think this calls for a much broader conversation, a frank and open conversation about sex and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections. The kind of conversation that we have been culturally very reluctant to have,” CDC Director of STD Prevention, Dr. John Douglas said.

The numbers sky-rocket for African American girls.

According to the study, almost half have an STD, compared to Caucasian and Hispanic teens with 20%.
