Baby Blog - Sleep?

By KSPR News

What's that?

Yes my daughter is beautiful and I love her, but sometimes having a newborn just sucks.  It sucks.  Honesty here.  I think a lot of moms of newborns are afraid to say it.  So many well-intentioned people are coming up to you saying "Isn't she wonderful?", "Congratulations" and "She's an angel"  And all I can think is, "when she's crying at 3:00 am she seems anything but angelic"

I know it's a new mother's rite of passage, but man, how much sleep deprivation can the human body withstand? I haven't had a decent night's sleep since I went back to work.  I'm tempted to take little catnaps during commercial breaks on the newscasts.

To make matters worse, both kids are sick right now.  Joey got it at daycare and he gave it to Jude.  Here's a sample sleeping, or maybe I should say waking, schedule in the Daues household:

9:30 pm - Joey goes to sleep

11:00 pm- After her last feeding Jude goes to sleep and hopefully I go to sleep too

12:00 am - Joe comes home from work and gets to sleep around midnight after walking the dog - thank you Baby.

1:30 am - Joey gets up, crying.  He's coughing and needs comforting.

2:00 am - Joey is back to sleep

3:30 am - Jude is up, she's hungry, needs a diaper change and her nose needs to be cleared (newborns can't blow their nose, so you have to use a blue hospital supplied squeegee-type gadget to suction her nose)

4:00 am - Jude's back to sleep

5:30 am - Joey's up again. He's congested and needs a breathing treatment. (these are temporary, while he's sick)

6:00 am - Joey's back to sleep

6:30 am - Jude is up and needs to eat again. I nurse her in bed and we both fall back asleep until ...

7:30 am - Joey is up for the day....and that means we're all up, time to get ready for work.

I know some nursing mothers who have a baby that gets up every 1-2 hours to eat.  So, I have it good!  If you hear me make a mistake on the news, now you know why.

It's a good thing God made babies so cute.

Now excuse me, I have to go call my Mom and thank her.
