Grey's Anatomy: Slow Night, So Long

Last night, the attendings got fratty. They might be well-respected surgeons and slightly older than your average co-ed, but Derek and his gang of loyal surgeons proved they still know how to party like college kids.  Or, that they still know how to get wasted and make comments that they’re sure to regret in the morning.

The attending surgeons took a field trip to Joe’s, their go-to bar across the street from the hospital, to celebrate Derek’s winning the Alzheimer’s grant that he has been agonizing over these past few episodes. In a lovely twist, they also get to celebrate Christina’s discovering her true calling in life: bartending and slutting it up at bachelor parties. Is it wise to let all of the top surgeons vacate the hospital at the same time? Can a skinny minnie like Christina actually pound that many shots without needing a visit to her former place of work? We have our doubts, but never fear, the residents are still around to keep the hospital running smoothly. Yes, because they are such a stable bunch.

Lexie and Avery attend two teenage brothers who tried to outrun a train, and failed. The younger one dies; the older one lives. Avery not so subtly hints that he knows exactly what the surviving brother is going through – from personal experience, we postulate? We’ll have to see, but this new aura of tragedy might just add a little heat to the torch we’re carrying for the blue-eyed boy.

April grapples with the deadliest sickness of all: young love. A teenage couple (what’s with these crazy kids tonight?), faced with the tragedy of a long-distance relationship, glues their arms and hands together to prove that nothing can tear them apart. Well, nothing that wouldn’t require skin grafts, at least. Of course April gets this case – she’s inexperienced in medicine and in love. How neatly this script falls into place. April spots Bailey and begs for help, but the super-wasted Bailey has enough problems of her own, like trying to get the vending machine to accept her dollar so she can satisfy her drunk munchies. However, Bailey’s wisdom never fails her, even when she’s a countless number of drinks deep. She shares drunken gems on how to escape the burden of virginity, as well as provides a solution for how to unstick the star-crossed lovers. Too bad she keeps getting in the way of her own love life.

Did you realize that Meredith and Alex are the last standing members of the original interns? Neither did we, but they were kind enough to remind us. The duo puts their cahones to the test by performing surgery on a sick child without his doctor’s approval. Of course, the doctor is a self-righteous jerk who’s overly obsessed with tiramisu, so he had it coming.

Speaking of dessert, Callie’s sweet tooth had a craving that only Mark Sloan could satisfy. That's right, the besties did the dirty. So much for team loyalty.
