When Oscar winners will be available on DVD

As you were were watching the Academy Awards Sunday night, you probably were like most folks: you hadn't seen most of the films nominated. (Except for "Avatar." Hasn't everyone seen "Avatar" at this point?)

The Oscars have always skewed towards recognizing small films or artsy movies that the general movie-going audience doesn't see. That's one of the reasons the Academy expanded the list of Best Picture nominees to ten this year: to include great films that people probably recognize and may have seen.

That doesn't take away from the fact that Best Picture winner "The Hurt Locker" only earned $14,700,000 when it was in theatres, just 2% of what "Avatar" has made.

But that's what DVDs are for right? Catching up on movies you didn't see or didn't want to see at the time. Some of this year's Oscar winners are already on disc (like "Locker"). Others will be coming to your local RedBox or Netflix queue very soon.
