(AP) - A New York Police Department spokesman says the actor Heath Ledger has been found dead at a downtown Manhattan
residence.

Ledger was nominated for an Academy Award in 2005 for his performance in "Brokeback Mountain." He will pay the Joker in the upcoming smmer release, "The Dark Knight."

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams.

The New York Times reports police do not suspect foul play and officers said they found pills near Ledger's body.
