Voter ID cards are more informational than required to identify voters

GREENE COUNTY, Mo. It's officially election season.

In Greene County the ballots are being prepared for April's election and Voter ID cards are being mailed.

Turns out, they are mostly for our information, not necessarily required to identify us.

The state requires each county to mail the cards out. The card can be used in place of a photo identification. They are mostly sent out so that we know where our polling place is and what our voting districts are.

A government issued photo identification is preferred. However that's not even that's not required. Even though the law passed there's nothing on the books that says it will ever be mandatory.

If you don't have a photo or voter identification card, a current bank statement or utility bill will still work at any polling place.
