NEW YORK CITY (AP) The NFL awarded the 2019 Super Bowl to Atlanta, the 2020 game to South Florida and the 2021 game to Los Angeles.

Atlanta has hosted the championship game twice, in 1994 and 2000. The city's new $1.4 billion retractable roof stadium is scheduled to open in 2017.

College football's national championship will also be at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2018 and the men's basketball Final Four will be played there in 2020. Atlanta also hosted the 1996 Olympics.
The new stadium is still under construction.

South Florida hasn't hosted a Super Bowl in a decade. Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has paid more than $400 million for renovations, NFL.com said.

"The only thing better than winning the 2020 Super Bowl is playing in it and winning it," Ross said.

The 2021 game could be one of several league events for Los Angeles, the league said. One other possible event could be a future NFL draft.

Other cities also in the running were New Orleans, Tampa Bay. The next two will be played in Houston (2017) and Minneapolis (2018).
