TRAVEL TROUBLES: National Weather Service issues Winter Weather Advisory into Wednesday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Here we go again with more winter weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for nearly all of the Ozarks. It lasts through 6 a.m. Wednesday morning.

It includes Barry, Barton, Benton (Mo.), Camden, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Dent, Douglas, Greene, Hickory, Howell, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, Maries, McDonald, Miller, Morgan, Newton (Mo.), Oregon, Ozark, Phelps, Polk, Pulaski, Shannon, St. Clair, Stone, Taney, Vernon, Webster, and Wright Counties in Missouri. It also includes, Baxter, Boone, Fulton, Izard, Marion, Newton (Ark.), Searcy, Sharp, and Stone Counties in Arkansas. The advisory lasts until midnight for Benton, Carroll, Madison, and Washington Counties in Arkansas.

Some light freezing rain or sleet may start to develop over Arkansas and far southern Missouri after noon Tuesday. This activity will gradually increase and spread north through the evening. This looks like mix of freezing rain and primarily sleet. Expect amounts to be light overall.

The heaviest activity will be along and south of a Harrison to West Plains to Eminence line where about a quarter inch of total moisture is currently expected with up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain. Roads will certainly be impacted and travel may be difficult on untreated roads. This system will move out quickly by Wednesday morning.

...Wintry Weather Late Today and This evening... .More winter weather will push into the area late this afternoon into tonight. Precipitation may begin as rain across southern Missouri early on and then change over to freezing rain as temperatures fall below freezing this evening. Further northwest, lesser amounts of freezing rain and freezing drizzle are expected. Light snow will be confined to portions of central Missouri where only trace amounts up to a half inch are expected. Precipitation will end late this evening into the overnight hours. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 6 AM CST WEDNESDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of up to one half inch and ice accumulations of around one tenth are expected. Higher amounts of ice from 0.15 to 0.20 inches will be possible over south central Missouri.

* WHERE...Portions of southeast Kansas and central, east central, south central, southwest and west central Missouri.

* WHEN...From 2 PM this afternoon to 6 AM CST Wednesday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The ice will result in difficult travel conditions. Be prepared for reduced visibilities at times.

* WHAT...Freezing rain expected. The ice will result in difficult travel conditions. Total ice accumulations of up to one tenth of an inch are expected.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest Arkansas, west central Arkansas, east central Oklahoma, northeast Oklahoma and southeast Oklahoma.

* WHEN...3 PM to midnight.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Not expecting enough ice and wind to cause any significant power disruptions across the region. Some sporadic power outages are possible however.
