SPECIAL ELECTION: 3 Arkansas counties head to the polls Tuesday

Two legislative races highlight the ballots in Boone, Carroll and Newton Counties.

The District 16 State Senate race features three candidates in the Republican primary. Robert Bailey, Luke Heffley ad Breanne Davis face off. The winner will face a Democratic challenger in May. That winner will succeed the late Greg Standridge, who died in November.

The District 83 State House race features a primary between two candidates. J. Donald Ragland faces off against Timmy Reid. The winner will not face an opponent in May. Ex-Represenative David Branscum resigned in November to become the U.S. Department of Agriculture's rural development director for Arkansas.

Valley Springs voters will also decide a school tax for a new high school and other renovations in the district.

Polls close at 7:30 PM.

Correction: We mistakenly said voters in Alpena would also decide a school tax. That vote is instead March 13.
