HOLLISTER, Mo. -- For many visiting with Santa is a holiday tradition. Some kids did just that this afternoon at the Historic Holiday Train Depot.
Santa arrived at the HIstoric Hollister Depot aboard the Ozark Zepher. Families boarded the train to meet the big man in the red suit.
"Many kids obviously and probably most kids who attend this have never been on a train. So, it's the both the excitement of being on a train for the first time as well as being able to meet Santa on the train," said Debbie Redford, Chamber of commerce.
Some kids were a bit shy, but most couldn't wait to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.
"I told him I wanted a telescope," said Johanna "Anything Spiderman," said Aidan. "A Super Mario odyssey, and a Nintendo switch," said Brees.
The 24th annual Hollister Santa Train is a collaboration between the chamber of commerce and several community organizations to give families an opportunity to meet Santa.
"A lot of things are incredibly expensive in the area as far as holiday activities and when we get stuff like this it's good for everybody including tourists," said Amber Christy. "I really feel like it gives everybody a chance to come together and sort of celebrate together."
Each kid left with snacks, and a bag of goodies.
"One thing that really touches my heart is Jordan Valley contributes toothpaste and a tooth brushes, and floss in each one of those bags," Redford said. "For many of those kids I hear more excitement from them than getting toys and the candy."
A visit with Santa isn't complete without him checking to see who has been naughty or nice.
