SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KSPR) - One bill up for discussion at Monday night’s City Council meeting has to do with funding a trip to Mexico.
Mayor Bob Stephens has about three months left in his term. He has also previously announced he would not run for re-election this coming April. So, why is this trip needed?
The bill authorizes, “Mayor Bob Stephens, on behalf of the City of Springfield, to visit our sister city, Tlaquepaque, Jalisco, Mexico.” It also says the estimated cost of the trip, including airfare, meals and lodging will be approximately $2,300.
Many people don’t think city should be footing the bill of the trip.
This bill could be voted on Monday night. According to the agenda, there will be time for public comment. If any person wants to speak at the meeting, it must be scheduled ahead of time through the City Clerk. The meeting is at 6:30.
