Neosho officer shoots, kills armed man during traffic stop

NEOSHO, Mo The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal shooting involving a Neosho police officer.

The Neosho Police Department reports officers responded to a call about an intoxicated person at Love’s truck stop at I-49 and Missouri Highway 86 Thursday morning. Before officers arrived, the person tried to drive away. Officers pulled over the driver.

Officers said the man got out of his car, and pulled a handgun from behind his body and pointed it at the officer. The officer fired at the man and killed him. The officer was not injured.

Police have released the name of the 52-year-old man from Tulsa. The Newton County coroner took the man’s body to Kansas City for an autopsy.

Neosho police turned the investigation over to the Missouri Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Division of Drug and Crime Control.
