SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KSPR) - The curtain rose at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema on Monday afternoon in what the company calls a "soft" opening. The city's newest movie theater is at the site of the former Campbell 16 Cine on South Avenue south of Primrose Street.
There was a lot of excitement as people showed up for the first showing of "2001: A Space Odyssey."
The Alamo project has been under way for more than a year. Company officials gave reporters a look inside on Monday afternoon before the first customers arrived for a show at 4:30.
If you remember this place as the old Campbell 16, you will see this place looks a lot different. In the new lobby, you walk in and don't see any concessions. That is because all the food and drinks are brought to your seats. It is a full service restaurant and pub that also happens to show movies.
The owners are excited. This is the largest facility in the Alamo brand but also one of the smaller markets in which the company is operating.
While they are going through the grand opening and trying to fix any bugs, everything except alcohol is half price. That goes through at least Sunday.
