FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) Three people, including a two-year-old child, were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 44.

It happened early Sunday morning at mile marker 236, northeast of Stanton.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a 2004 Saab driven by Robert Batson, 26, of Sullivan, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of the interstate.

Troopers say Batson struck a 2013 Toyota Sienna occupied by seven people. Both vehicles ran off the road.

Batson died at the scene, along with two other people in the Sienna who were identified as Sushma Settipalli, 32; and Mahidhar Settipalli, 2; both of Plano, Texas.

Five other people were rushed to the hospital with injuries ranging from minor to serious.

No word on why Batson was traveling in the wrong lane of traffic.
