Meet KY3's Sara Forhetz.
Sara Forhetz loves news, and always has. Her desire to get to the bottom of things started as a young girl. Everyone in her hometown of Fort Gibson, Okla., knew, when they talked to Sara, they would be asked a million questions. That inquisitiveness continues to this day and has turned into an award winning career for her.
Sara joined the KY3 News Team in February 2005 as lead reporter for Ozarks Today. She can now be seen reporting on the evening newscasts on Mondays and Tuesdays, and anchoring Ozarks Today weekend edition on Saturday and Sunday mornings from 7a.m. to 8a.m.
Sara is an award winning reporter. Sara won a Mid-America Emmy for her coverage of the re-building efforts in Haiti, after the devastating earthquake in 2010. She also won an award for Investigative Reporting from the Missouri Broadcasters Association, after she uncovered a used car dealer who was ripping off dozens of customers by rolling back odometers. Her work has also been honored by the Missouri State Teachers Association and the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters. She was nominated for Midwest Emmy Awards in 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Before coming to the Ozarks, Sara worked as a reporter in Sherman, Texas. She's a proud graduate of Oklahoma State University and interned at KY3 News, laying the groundwork for her return as a reporter years later.
Sara also loves to give back to the Ozarks community. She was recently honored by Springfield Business Journal as one of '40 Under 40' for her work with charities and her stories that enhance the community. Sara emcees events for many charities around the Ozarks, often teaming up with her husband, KY3 News Anchor Ethan Forhetz. Sara often speaks to church groups about her faith, as well as college and high school classes about journalism.
Sara is a fitness fanatic. She has competed in a number of half Ironman triathlons, 70.3 miles, and other races, including the Ozark Greenways Adventure Race, a more than 50-mile race over the rugged terrain of the Ozarks. It includes extreme mountain biking, orienteering, running through a thick forest and canoeing and lasts for more than eight hours. She considers it a "healthy addiction." She also finished in first place in her age group among women in the 2010 Branson Mountain Man Triathlon.
Then-Sara Sheffield married KY3 News anchor Ethan Forhetz on April 21, 2007. They welcomed their first child, Caroline Grace, in June, 2009. They had their second child, Ainsley Jane, on August 16, 2011. Here's a photo gallery from Ainsley's birth.
And on their third child, they finally got a boy! Griffin was born on March 28, 2013.
In their spare time, Sara and Ethan enjoy being outside, cooking, traveling, volunteering at church and going to the park with Caroline, Ainsley, Griffin and Maggie, their rat terrier. They also attend as many OSU Cowboy sporting events as possible!
Sara & Ethan were recognized by 417 Magazine for the work they do for the community, named one of the area's top ten "Power Couples" in 2010. They've also been featured in 417 Bride and Go Magazine. Sara was also named as one of the Top 10 Most Beautiful Women by 417 Magazine in 2013.
