Baltimore's top draft pick in 1973 (second overall), he lifted the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000044" title="Indianapolis Colts" href="/topic/sports/football/indianapolis-colts-ORSPT000044.topic">Colts</a> from the post-<a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="PESPT0000008600" title="Johnny Unitas" href="/topic/sports/football/johnny-unitas-PESPT0000008600.topic">Johnny Unitas</a> abyss, leading them to three consecutive <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000000251" title="AFC East" href="/topic/sports/football/afc-east-ORSPT000000251.topic">AFC East</a> championships from 1975 to 1977. Three times in his nine years here, Jones passed for more than 3,000 yards, including 1976 when he was the <a class="taxInlineTagLink" id="ORSPT000007" title="National Football League" href="/topic/sports/football/national-football-league-ORSPT000007.topic">NFL</a>'s Most Valuable Player. Two years earlier, he set a league record by completing 17 consecutive passes.
