Michelle Sherwood anchors Saturdays and Sundays.
Michelle has covered the Ozarks since April 2003. Her first big assignment was covering a severe tornado outbreak—the worst the area had endured in decades. Since then, she’s been the lead reporter on several breaking stories, and has been recognized by the Missouri Broadcasters Association, the National Press Photographers Association, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Radio-Television News Directors Association. Her efforts to encourage drivers to become more attentive on Missouri roads also earned a regional Emmy in 2006.
Michelle spends a lot of her spare time advocating for adoption issues in the Ozarks. As a Korean adoptee, Michelle loves to meet adoptive families and hearing their stories. In April 2007, the Springfield Business Journal recognized her as one of the area’s “40 Under 40”, partly because of her dedication to younger adoptees and their families.
Currently, Michelle serves on the board for
Adoption for Families, where she works with domestic and international adoptive families. She's traveled three times to Korea and played the role of stork--meaning, she brought back babies to their new parents in the United States.
Before moving to KSPR, Michelle worked at KY3 in Springfield and WWAY in Wilmington, North Carolina. She graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in journalism.
Outside of work, Michelle's favorite thing to do is cook. She is also an avid blogger and spends much of her time logging hours on the computer. When she covered Governor-Elect Jay Nixon's watch party, she squeezed in time to chat with viewers about their voting experiences over Facebook!
2008 was a big year-- Michelle married her husband, Jim, who also works in television news. And she became an aunt for the first time. Her Korean sister, Yeoun Jung, gave birth to Hae Ssal on September 3rd, 2008. His nickname means "sunbeams".
