Meet Joanna Small

Joanna Small comes to Springfield by way of the Great Northern Plains. After graduating from the University of Colorado with a degree in Broadcast News, she began her career in journalism as a one-woman band at KUMV-TV, an NBC bureau station in the small town of Williston, North Dakota. In January of 2006, she was promoted to KFYR-TV, the mother station in Bismarck, where she co-anchored and co-produced the morning show. After a year and a half with little sleep and lots of coffee, she was moved to anchor and producer of the Noon Report, as well as nightly health reporter. Joanna says working with doctors was a humbling experience; she learned something new every day.

Joanna's a Missouri native... sort of. She was born in St. Louis and even attended Mizzou for a year, but she says she did most of her growing-up in Denver, Colorado. Still, she's thrilled to be in her home state, working as KSPR's nightside reporter.

Joanna met her husband, Mark, on a story in Bismarck. The two share a number of hobbies, including motorcyles and long-distance running. Joanna completed her first marathon in September of 2007. She says aside from Mark, her best running partners are their two dogs, a Springer Spaniel named Alex and Makena, a Shiba Inu.
